The question I get asked the most at the moment is should I be using (insert latest web 2.0 tactic here twitter, facebook, linkdin) to promote my business.
The answer to this is most likely yes but before we get onto the latest trends it is worth looking at how we are going with the basics.
So here it is, the list of online tactics that I feel you should have covered off before getting into web 2.0 tactics.
- Partnerships and cooperative links - Ensure all partnerships include prominent placement of the URL in negotiations. Cooperative links help in creating volume as well as increasing page rank with search engines.
- Search engine optimisation. Have an external optimisation specialist review your sites regularly.
- Search engine marketing. Purchased key words for search engines such as Google and Yahoo.
- In house email programs.Talk to your customers, development of subscribers to email lists.
- Purchased email programs. Purchase ad space in other media companies lists.
- Large scale rich media ads Video and interactive ads on major portals good for reach.
- Links on media portal sites. Give these a go they work well.
- Category specific portals. Island, banner and tower ads on major sites in your category.
- Pop under ads. Load your site under the existing media site. Not very sophisticated.
- In context associations Providing editorial or advertorial to related websites.
- Run of site on screen advertising using island and banner ads. Standard banners, towers and island ads on the internet in unrelated sites such as news sites.
- Social Network Advertising. Pay Per Click advertising on Linked In, Facebook and messenger have not yet reached the critical mass required to make this an effective volume driver. It is worth keeping an eye on this over the next 12 months.
Of course the media choice is just a way of getting your message out there. Making sure your message is compelling is the real challenge.
Social Networking and Web 2.0 sites do provide the opportunity to put a bit of heart into your message which is an exciting development. More about that next blog.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading about Online marketing. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
